Hovering

Heads together, his parents hover closely over the new chick, to see that it doesn't get too cool too quickly... it must have room to get out of the eggshell, but will suffer from heat-loss if allowed too much room.

Instinctively his parents know to give him just enough room, and no more. They also know that they cannot help at this stage, other than to encourage the chick verbally, which they do - using more of the tiny, sweet-voiced murmers and cheeps which Dan has been using to 'talk' to the eggs with all along.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
