Claiming Territory

This shot was taken only a few minutes after the previous picture. In it, one of the young males who was using the Birdy Swimming Hole has pre-empted the millet-holder perch to use as a drying-off and preening station. He pauses in mid-preen to sing out a challenge and a declaration of his 'ownership' of the perch to the other males, many of whom are still bathing.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
