Welcome to the

Canary Cam Archives

Flocking Around

When sharing a large cage during the winter, you will find that canaries tend to sort themselves into groups. Most often, a group will consist of several hens, with one male, as in this picture. The males may come and go, but rarely is there ever more than one with the hens without there being a spat - male canaries don't tend to get along too well.

As winter advances towards breeding season, the squabbling between the males will become more and more serious, until eventually they must be separated, each to his own cage.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
