Never scrimp on nesting material. Whatever fibrous materials you use, they should all be pre-shrunk, and not too fine - you don't want them to get tangled around the hen's feet, or the chicks' either, for that matter! You just might find yourself being amazed at the quality of nests your hens can build, if you give them the proper materials...
