Welcome to the

Canary Cam Archives

Chin Deep

This shot shows Peanut using her wings to help tamp loose nesting material into place. She is using shredded burlap, an easy to make and highly effective homemade solution - you can find out how to make it for yourself in my article Pertinent Points About Breeding Canaries.

Never scrimp on nesting material. Whatever fibrous materials you use, they should all be pre-shrunk, and not too fine - you don't want them to get tangled around the hen's feet, or the chicks' either, for that matter!

You just might find yourself being amazed at the quality of nests your hens can build, if you give them the proper materials...

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
