Nutritional Boost

Peanut has left her eggs to go and forage for the nutrition she knows she will need today - because another egg is expected tomorrow! I try to see that a hen whom I expect to be laying receives all the nutrition she could possibly need, in whichever way she prefers to eat it.

That means using full-spectrum lighting, and a good-sized supply daily of chopped kale mixed with grated carrots. Hens who are laying or who have youngsters also get a healthy serving of soak-seed-and-nestling food, sometimes with a little baked egg-shell sprinkled on top.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
