Hatch & Grow

Two healthy youngsters hatch out on the morning of the thirteenth day after their mom laid her last egg. It is not long before their tiny heads are stretched as high as they can, so as to make it as easy as possible for Mom to feed them. Notice that, even standing as tall as they can, they are not even as long as their mom's legs - their heads barely come up to her lower thigh!

They have to be tiny to fit into those teensy eggs - but watch for them to grow dramatically over the next few days. Normally, a canary chick will literally double in weight every day of the first ten or so days of his life...

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
