Eggs Again

The nest is finally as close to finished as Baby Doll can get it, and the egg-laying begins for the second time. Unlike many of my hens, Baby Doll does not begin to incubate her eggs immediately they are laid, which means for once I don't have to switch out her eggs for fakes until setting the clutch.

This is a nice change of pace, but I still try to be sure to inspect the nest daily, so she is used to me taking the nest away for short periods, and won't let it alarm her once the chicks have hatched - by then, it will be just another part of the daily routine.

The nest is finally complete.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
