Stuffing The Chick

This shot shows the chicks' crop quite clearly - it runs down the right side of the neck. The skin is so translucent that until the feathers grow in, any food in the crop is clearly visible.

In this case, the chick has been fed nestling food, which looks yellowish in the crop, while the greenish colour is because - you guessed it - Baby Doll has been feeding him greens.

That funny greenish-yellow lump on the chik's neck is a crop full of greens and nestling food.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
