On The Edge

The next morning finds the both youngsters in the nest, awaiting their breakfast, but yesterday's little explorer couldn't resist asserting just a little bit of independance - he's perched on the edge of the nest while he waits for his mom to feed him, rather than sitting in the middle with his nestmate.

The feathers on both chicks are almost completely unfurled now, except for those around the face; Nature, in her wisdom, sees to it that those feathers unfurl rather late, to help avoid getting food stuck onto them.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
