Flying Practice

This is a great shot of the more recent activities in the nest - practicing flying. As with everything that happens in the nest these days, only two at once can practice.

They arrange themselves so they can get a good strong grip on the edge of the nestpan with their feet, then lean forward a little and flap like mad.

This looks rather comical, but is actually a very practical thing for them to do, as it helps them to be certain that their wings will be strong enough to hold them when their big day comes and they finally make that first leap.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
