Ready to Fly

This picture shows Priscilla, a variegated gold cinnamon (gold-brown) hen, preparing for flight.

This mutation is a gender-linked recessive, that represses black melanins, allowing only brown melanins to show.

Depending on the underlying 'ground' (or 'lipochrome') colour, whether white, rose, yellow, or red, one brown canary can look quite different from another, even though they share the same mutation.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
