Welcome to Robirda's Celebration of Poetry!

You will find a little bit of everything here, eventually... I plan to introduce some of my favourite authors, as well as the occasional bit of wordplay that chose to come through my pen...

  • For starters, here's one that insisted in the middle of the night a few years ago, that I write it down, right now! I call it Transformotion. This next one was also insistent on being captured by the pen - I couldn't sleep til I wrote it down. It could have no other name than Re Incarnate.

  • I like to play music to relax - one of my favourite instruments is the electric bass. In actual fact, most of my 'poems' are actually songs - even though I can't sing my way out of a paper bag, most days! ;-) Here's a tribute to music and musicians which I call Jam

  • Keeping birds can lead to writing about them - or their feathers! Here's a poem by Sharon Kleuber, called Ode to the Moult, followed by my tribute to the annual redecoration of my house, Rhyme of the Ancient Moult.

  • Next I would like to introduce you to one of the biggest influences in my early life... a woman with a remarkable way with words, author of 'Legends of Vancouver', and 'Flint and Feather', among others. I find the perspective and beauty of her words is as much alive today as the day it was written.

Here are some of my faves, from the pen of Pauline E. Johnson (Tekahionwake) - The Song My Paddle Sings, The Cattle Thief, and The Ballad of Yaada.

  • Another long-time favourite poet of mine is Robert Service - his heartfelt descriptions from almost a century ago of the magic of the Northlands, are beyond compare!

Here are two of my all-time fave raves from the pen of Robert Service... the little-known poem The Pines, and the famous classic, The Ballad of Sam McGee.

I hope you like these pieces as well as I do! Drop by occasionally - I will be updating this area on an irregular basis, as time allows...
